Not That Much

After reading the book Guess How Much I Love You? numerous times lately, Elliana asks this question frequently throughout the day. She wants you to tell her how much and then it's her turn. Typically, she's beaming at the end and offers a huge hug. Now that I'm used to this routine I expected a certain reply. My mistake.

Elliana: Mama, how much do you love me?

Mama: More than all the books in the world. And, how much do you love me?

Elliana: I don't love you more than all the books in the world.

Mama: Did you mean that you do love me more than all the books in the world?

Elliana: (in her new robot voice): No. I love you, but just not that much.

Mama: silence
